GenText, inc. was the primary provider of print datastream transform software to the COLD, archive, print, and digital information delivery industries, and continues in that position under its new name Xenos Group (since 1998). The unique GenText transform architecture allowed the company to produce 64 high quality print transform products during the first five years of business, and to lay the ground work for easy movement to XML-based architectures as those were defined.

Accomplishments:

  • Managed all P&L for company from inception.
  • Chief evangelist for technology behind print transforms and the viability of it in the business process. Developed sales aids for distribution partners, including sales checklists and training.
  • Chief contract negotiator for all customer and distribution relationships. Aided distribution partners in contract negotiation as needed.
  • Innovative employee atmosphere, benefits program, and bonus programs made us a sought after employer.
  • Developed and managed customer training and initial end user documentation. Delivered customer training on GenText products and industry standards (AFP, PDF< Metacode, DCF).
  • Developed consulting practice related to high volume computer output for AFP, Metacode, PCL, and later PDF and PostScript. Worked with client OEMs and in-house departments to train sales, technical and support personnel in all aspects of business process re-engineering related to the addition of GenText products to the business environment.
  • Managed planning and logistics for international and domestic trade show participation, including XPLOR, On-Demand, CeBIT, and Xplor Europe.
  • Developed marketing plan for products, including first industry website devoted to high-speed corporate print that included help, corporate user manuals, and industry news.

Image Sciences, Inc. (now DocuCorp, Inc.) was the leading provider of application software to the Insurance industry, specializing in variable data replacement during the print run, thus eliminating the need to warehouse pre-printed forms.

Accomplishments:

  • Developed publication program to codify and standardize end-user documentation, which could be printed on demand on any IBM or Xerox printer.
  • Developed first training program in the industry for customers using IBM's Advanced Function Printing environment, including the use of the IBM text processing software, Document Composition Facility.
  • Developed the first industry training programs for non-designers in business document development in Image Sciences environments.
  • Developed regular speaking practice at industry conferences in user documentation design, human-computer interaction design, information delivery workflow, mainframe-based corporate publishing, and tagged languages (DCF, SCRIPT, ETC, SGML).
  • Provided expertise to projects owned by Research and Development into knowledge-based document creation systems, and special projects undertaken for TeKnowledge and IBM.
